Program Description
“Aging and Mental Health” Series
An interactive and participatory outreach program providing a comprehensive, positive and balanced perspective on aging. Weekly two-hour programs run nine weeks per senior center site. The 9-week program is designed to help Los Angeles seniors (65+) and older (85+) population, their family members, caregivers and others increase their understanding and ability to differentiate normal milestones of aging versus symptoms of mental illness problems and disorders, increase coping skills regarding mental health problems associated with aging and illness; and help participants address needs and seek help and services.
“Hearing Enhancement and Life Enrichment” Series
An interactive and participatory program providing a comprehensive program on aging and hearing loss, and bringing together the fields of audiology and psychology of aging. The 8-week series includes education, communication therapy, audiological information, speech and language communicative techniques.
"Strategies-Coping-Solutions" Hour
The second hour each week (both programs) provides opportunities for participants to present and examine problems relating to weekly topics. Strategies, coping skills, adjustments, remedies and solutions will be discussed, engaging the whole group’s participation and encouraging each participant to examine perspectives individually and as a group.
